Idly Orchid Akasam

Idly Orchid Akasam is a Telugu translation of Idli Orchid And Will Power by Vithal Venkatesh Kamath, of the Kamat Hotel chain. It tells his inspiring life story, a story of success that came as a result of a lot of hardwork and perseverance.
Summary Of The Book
Idly Orchid Akasam is not just the biography of V. V. Kamath, it is also the story of the evolution and growth of the Kamat chain which now has nearly 400 hotels across the country.
Vithal Kamath’s father Venkatesh Kamath started the family’s business when he established his first small restaurant in Byculla, Venkatesh Kamath started his career in the hotel business as a dishwasher when he was a boy. Sheer hard work made him a restaurant owner.
He did not stop with that one restaurant. With the backing of his wife who pawned her jewels, he started a group of hotels, Satkar, Suruchi and Sanman. The business flourished and formed the basis of the now huge Kamat chain.
Vithal Venkatesh Kamath and his siblings grew up seeing their father work hard to make a success of the restaurant business. Kamath inherited his father’s capacity for working hard. He also had the courage to venture beyond the security of the family business, to achieve big things.
He studied engineering, but his passion was still the hotel business. He dreamt of establishing a huge hotel chain, and set to work on a plan to translate his dreams into reality.
Idly Orchid Akasam traces his life from his childhood, beginning with the early days of living in a small house with six siblings. It recounts the hard days and the happier ones, of his relationship with his family and his siblings which were not always smooth.
The book tells of the challenges he faced, the setbacks and the betrayals by his own family members and friends, of his deep affection and respect for his parents. It tracks his own personal growth, overcoming his own shortcomings and the challenges thrown at him by external factors.
Finally, he did manage to successfully establish the Kamat hotel chain as a successful business and also started the first eco-friendly hotel in Asia, The Orchid. It is an inspiring tale of triumph over adverse circumstances, of emerging victorious against many major hurdles.
