An Obedient Father

An Obedient Father is a contemporary novel by Akhil Sharma.
Summary of the Book
Ram Karan is an inspector for the physical education department in the Delhi School system. He takes care of his widowed daughter and his young granddaughter, Asha. He falls under the pressure of familial responsibilities and turns to corruption, collecting bribes for a political party boss. On the eve of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, a careless act shames him with the recollection of the lifetime of violence and sexual shame behind his dingy public career and corners him in a farcical and terrifying political campaign. This book gives readers a stark character study, an image of a family and a country struggling with the past.
