Magaj Na Gumavo Vajan Gumavo (Gujarati) is the translated version of her acclaimed 2009 diet book Don’t Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight, about losing weight through healthy eating habits.
Summary Of The Book
Authored by Rujuta Diwekar, one of India’s leading celebrity diet specialists, Magaj Na Gumavo Vajan Gumavo (Gujarati) dispels many myths surrounding weight loss and dieting, advocating four principles of eating right including, having six meals a day in reasonable quantities, focusing on the nutrient value rather than the calorific value of the food, eating local foods that are generic to one’s region, and fitting exercise into one’s daily routine.
According to the book, one can eat anything they want, provided it is done in a planned manner, without resorting to crash diets or zero carb diets which create unhealthy cravings in the body. The book discusses that overeating is a ‘crime’ and food deprivation is ‘punishment’, urging people to find a sensible middle ground between the two, and eat healthy without punishing themselves by starving.
Magaj Na Gumavo Vajan Gumavo (Gujarati) emphasises three basic steps towards dieting namely, learning about one’s body, designing the right eating plan to suit your body, and gradually adjusting one’s food habits. Following these steps, people of all shapes, whether apple or pear-shaped, can achieve their weight goals, while also enjoying their favourite foods, including hard to resist parathas, and other delicacies.
Having worked with many celebrity clients from Bollywood, the author reveals her diet secrets in the book, with an entire chapter dedicated towards explaining how Kareena was able to get into great shape for the film Tashan, following the author’s diet mantras.
The author includes tips like going to bed early, starting one’s day early, not eating after sunset, and mindful eating, ie., not eating while reading, or watching television.
Based on the Indian perspective, the book also provides basic nutritional facts pertaining to various foods, including their Glycemic index (GI), what foods should be eaten when, and in which order, for instance, before or after a workout, with numerous live examples from her exhaustive list of clients.
Its English version, Don’t Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight, published in 2009, was rated a best-seller in the non-fiction category.
