Autobiography Of A Yogi presents a chronicle of Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda’s life, in his own words. It begins with a glimpse into his childhood experiences, tracing his birth as Mukunda Lal Ghosh and his subsequent quest for an enlightened spiritual guru. It goes on to explore his spiritual advancement under the tutelage of Swami Yukteswar Giri.
This book further explores Yogananda’s move to America in 1920, followed by his efforts to introduce meditation and Yoga to the West through his establishment called the Self-Realization Fellowship. It offers interesting accounts of his interaction with numerous great spiritual personalities, including Sir C. V. Raman, Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi, Ananda Moyi Ma, Therese Neumann, and Giri Bala.
Through mystical, magical stories from the Indian subcontinent, the book emphasizes the idea of the Divine. It focuses on various fundamental spiritual philosophies of India, the art and science of yoga, and many other esoteric secrets from the East.
The book was first published in 1946. It has received high acclaim over the decades and is considered a fascinating, inspirational read by people all over. It has been translated into as many as 29 languages. This edition of the book is a 2001 reprint by the Yogoda Satsanga Society of India.
About Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda
Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda was an Indian yogi and spiritual guru whose teachings were based on the science of Kriya Yoga.
His written works include books like In The Sanctuary Of The Soul, Developing Dynamic Will, Inner Peace, Enter The Quiet Heart, Seek God Now!, Songs Of The Soul, Man’s Eternal Quest, and The Bhagavad Gita: God Talks With Arjuna.
His writing explores themes of spirituality and God.
Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda was born as Mukunda Lal Ghosh on January 5, 1893, in Gorakhpur, India. He graduated from Serampore College, University of Calcutta. By then, he was already a disciple of Swami Yukteswar Giri. He went on to establish a school for boys, which has now turned into the Yogoda Satsanga Society of India. Yogananda moved to the United States in 1920 and lived there for more than three decades before moving back to India. He was then given the title of Paramahansa (indicating the highest spiritual attainment) by his guru. Yogananda passed away on March 7, 1952, in California, United States.
